Help Wanted:
Looking For A Few Good Travel
Writing Enthusiasts
Plus: The State of Restless Me
3.12.06
The good news
is that my freelance work has kept me real busy the last
few months, and as all writers trying to scrape out a
paycheck know, you can never complain about that. But
the bad news is that when the paying freelance biz is
good, the nonpaying website suffers. Hence the
appearance of a dead, inactive site since the beginning
of the year. (Sorry about that.) I'm working to change
that and plan to have the Spring issue out shortly. Yet,
for those keeping count, we are averaging two issues a
year when the plan has been to pump out four. That is
still the plan.
This first year has been quite the
learning experience, and RM has certainly had its
share of growing pains. With the goal of putting out
four issues a year, I'll be cutting out certain things
like the Events section for the time being to focus on
choosing a few of the best feature stories from the
hundreds that we receive. Also, when I started RM
I envisioned being able to give detailed feedback to
beginning writers who submitted their stories.
Unfortunately, I've learned the volume of submissions
makes that impossible to do. To those writers looking
for feedback, I would encourage them to post in our
Travel Writing Discussion Forum . . . which, by the way,
was unfortunately hacked by an apparent
travel-writing-hating hacker over the winter. A new
forum will be created shortly.
Finally, I am looking for
one or two travel writing enthusiasts who may want
contribute to the editorial side of RM. Such a
person/people should have a real passion for the art of
narrative travel writing. They would help proofread
selected stories and contribute to other parts of the
publication. If you would like to discuss this with me,
please
drop me an e-mail. Again, thanks for your patience
in between issues, and, as always, thank you for your
interest in RM.
